Maths Society Desmos Art Competition

Desmos Art Competition Poster

Yes! It’s a competition! If you have not heard of Desmos, it is a highly regarded online graphing calculator used by many a maths YouTuber to illustrate Algebra, Calculus, among other maths curiosities. However, these graphs can also be used to make beautiful art. It is understandable too, as pdfs are made of vectors, which is basically pure maths! Desmos holds many competitions, and you can see some of the beautiful works on their website!

This competition has finished. See the results on the story here.

So we decided to hold one! This is an entirely open competition, so anybody can enter via our website, and we are accepting entries until 31 September. To enter, please submit a photo of your work, the name you would like to credited with (you will be disqualified if it’s not appropriate), as well as two showing your working. So that you don’t, maybe… copy something off their website? You can enter more than once, the more the merrier, and we look forward to seeing what you come up with!

The Maths Society Committee will shortlist the 5 most ‘impressive’ works, and select the most impressive to be the winner, who will be announced on the website shortly after the closing date.

Good Luck!

“I look forward to seeing what sort of beautiful synergy of art and maths our submissions will involve!”

— A Gupta, Competitions Secretary
