A New Committee: Maths Society AGM 2024

Maths Society celebrated its first anniversary with our 2024 Annual General Meeting today, on Tuesday 19 March. We discussed our hopes and ambitions for the future of the society, announced a Year Plan, reaffirmed our charter and most importantly of all, elected a new committee. Many important local leaders came to the society for the day, joining many of our members, our Editorial Board, and new visitors hoping to join.

Firstly, we would like to say a massive thank you to our outgoing committee members:

  • Aditya S, Secretary (2023-24)
  • Daniel C, Treasurer (2023-24)
  • Vivaan P, Competitions Secretary (2023-24)

It has been an honour for us all to work with you, and the society will not be the same without you.

Charlton C was elected as President for a second year leading the society’s strategic direction and day-to-day running, Aarav S became Secretary, responsible for administration within the society, and the members chose Ryan G to be the new Treasurer, who is accountable for money matters within the society.

The President also used the opportunity to co-opt three other members into the committee:

  • Roksanka K, Membership Secretary
  • Nathan A G, Competitions Secretary
    Etti B, Projects Secretary

The meeting was a great opportunity to elect a fresh committee for an exciting new year for the society, as well as discuss what the year held. We were able to champion maths among local leaders, and continue to forge a love of maths for all our members, young and old.

”First of all, I would like to thank all our brilliant members for giving me the opportunity to lead this wonderful society for another year as President. It truly is an honour! The Annual General Meeting, or AGM, was an amazing success, with so many members coming, as well as people wanting to join. The ability to promote maths among local leaders was also an important part of the meeting, it’s what we’re here for. All I can say is that, things have only just begun!”

— Charlton C, President

“I have loved the idea of this society since I first heard of it, so it is a great privilege to be able to shape its future! I am particularly passionate about increasing our range of projects.”

— Aarav S, Secretary

The Annual General Meeting is also great news for this website! Over the next year we plan to bring you even more maths news, features, interviews, and resources you can use both inside and outside of the classroom. Watch this space!

The society thanks everyone who came to the meeting today and who has supported the society over the last year. We could not have done it without you.
