Introducing Mathsounds — The student maths podcast

Maths Society has launched Mathsounds, a podcast made by students, dedicated to bringing the joy and knowledge of the world of maths to everyone. In our first episode, which you can now listen to on our website, we explore the concept of Pi, and whether it is the most important constant in mathematics.

We hope to make Mathsounds available whether you normally get your podcasts in the future. Over the next few episodes, alongside our Gallery project, we will be exploring mathematical concepts, constants, theorems and much more. We decided to start producing Mathsounds because we wanted for you to find out more about what some of these mathematical concepts are, where they come from and why they are useful in the world, as well as other fun facts you may not have known! Podcasting is a modern and accessible way of spreading information, or entertaining people whatever they are doing, with the intimate connection that comes from listening to something in your ear.

”I am incredibly pleased to launch our new podcast — Mathsounds! Hopefully you enjoy listening to our first episode about the famous mathematical constant Pi. This is an amazing step forward for our society to be producing podcasts like this. Podcasting is a brilliant way to do what we love — spreading the joy and knowledge we love in mathematics to everyone. The first episode a great listen, and you are sure to learn something about Pi! I’m greatly looking forward to seeing what we can cook up in future episodes.” — C Cooper, President
