Maths Society’s X logo

Maths Society’s signature “X” logo dates back to our founding as a student society. It uses a calligraphic ‘x‘, the universal symbol of algebra, unmistakeable as an icon of mathematics, and a calligraphic ‘o’ proportioned to create the figure of a person, symbolising maths and an enthusiastic student. The calligraphic ‘x‘ not only gives the figure arms and legs, but creates a ‘v’ shape evocative of a blazer or jacket that might be worn by a maths student.

When you look at the Maths Society logo for long enough, you might see it either running to the right or running towards you.

Our full branding includes our name, Maths Society, complete with a dot product symbol ‘·’, in effect meaning ‘maths’ multiplied by ‘society’, a representation both of our existence as a ‘maths society’, but also our interest in spreading a love of maths within society.

So that’s the Maths Society logo and branding explained. Made you look!
