Contributing

Writing for Maths Society is the perfect way for a maths student to hone and demonstrate their mathematical and writing skills and creates referenceable work perfect for demonstrating enthusiasm for and interest in mathematics. Writing for us is also a brilliant way to support Maths Society in its mission of spreading the joy and knowledge of maths, and providing high-quality resources for teachers written from a student perspective.

Contributors to our website are credited for their work with their first name and surname initial, as we are a friendly society and all on a first-name basis! They also automatically receive an author page where all their published work for Maths Society is listed.

The best articles published on the Maths Society website may be included in our newsletter, which is sent out to all of our members every month.

Submissions

We welcome submissions or articles, commissioned by us or otherwise, as well as any ideas or recommendations for future articles and comments or improvements for existing articles.

Submitting an article

Articles should be submitted as a pdf, word file or plain text to contact@math-soc.com with the author’s name. By submitting Maths Society Ventures is granted the right to publish articles in any form in any medium.

Articles should be written in plain text, indications of headings and formatting may be given. We advise that the author also provides suggestions or sketches for any images or diagrams that would help illustrate their article.

We strongly suggest you follow the writing tips for different types of article outlined below.

We prefer articles to be written in British English. Maths Society has no formal style guide; articles may be edited for length, style, spelling, punctuation, grammar and mathematical accuracy at the discretion of our editors.

Contributors will be sent the final edit of their piece for approval before it appears on the website and in our newsletter.

Multiple contributors are more than welcome to collaborate on articles. In this case the lead author should be indicated along with any others who have contributed.

Maths Society may commission specific articles for specific times. In this case we will specifically email contributors to discuss the commission.
