The 67th International Mathematical Olympiad officially began on Tuesday 14 July with a spectacular opening ceremony in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai. The maths world championship maths for pre-university students, the most prestigious mathematical competition in the world, has been held every year bar one across the world since 1959. China, the most successful participating country in the Olympiad’s history, hosts the competition for the second time, following the 1990 edition in Beijing.
The mathematical contest will take place over the next two days.
