March Newsletter

Welcome members to the latest edition of your Maths Society newsletter. Many of you will have watched, or at least heard about, last month’s Winter Olympics, and perhaps even the peculiar sport of curling. Have you ever wondered how and why the stones ‘curl’? We look to see if applied maths and physics have the answers. This issue also features a biography of Maryam Mirzakhani, the extraordinary mathematician raised in wartime Iran who became a leading force in geometry among other topics, and the first woman to win the prestigious Fields Medal.

To celebrate Pi day, we also have a special sale on in the week running up to the 14th in our maths shop. Find the perfect gift for your maths-loving friends and family!
